Canadian winters can be beautiful, but they can also present serious challenges for people experiencing homelessness, housing insecurity, and financial hardship. For individuals sleeping outdoors or living in temporary shelters, prolonged exposure to extreme cold can pose life-threatening risks. For low-income households, rising living costs can make it difficult to afford adequate heating, warm clothing, and other winter essentials.

Newcomers experiencing their first Canadian winter may face additional challenges accessing appropriate winter clothing, essential supplies, and information about cold-weather safety. Older adults living alone, individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness, and families in underserved, remote, and northern communities may face further barriers to accessing timely assistance and essential services.

Through its Winter Care program, Care Beyond Borders (CBB) aims to support individuals and families facing these challenges by improving access to essential winter supplies, promoting cold-weather safety, and connecting people experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity with available community resources and support services.

Working in collaboration with local shelters, homelessness service providers, schools, settlement agencies, and community organizations, CBB seeks to ensure that assistance reaches those who need it most. Our approach prioritizes early preparation, community-led solutions, accessibility, and the dignity of every individual.

We believe that everyone deserves a safe place to stay, protection from extreme weather, and access to the essential resources needed to navigate Canada's winter months with safety and dignity.
