Why Food

Most hunger isn't a lack of food.

In the hardest places we work, the food is usually still there. War, displacement and a broken economy have just priced people out of it. A mother in a tent settlement can see the market from where she sleeps. She still can't afford a single bag of flour.

CBB Canada partners with kitchens and local suppliers to bridge that gap. We cook and carry hot meals to people who have no way to cook for themselves, and we hand out month-long parcels of flour, rice, lentils, oil and dates so families can put food on their own table.

Ramadan is when our teams work hardest. We serve iftar and pass out festive food packs so no one breaks their fast looking at an empty plate. The need never really lets up. Neither does the response your generosity keeps making possible.

Feed the hungry, and your own table will never feel empty.

How it works

From the warehouse to the hands waiting for it.

Food aid only counts if it actually shows up — fast, fresh and to the people who need it most. Here's how we make sure it does.

  1. Step 01

    Assess

Local teams find the hungriest households first: the displaced, widows, orphans and the elderly.

  2. Step 02

    Source

We buy staples nearby wherever we can, which helps local markets and keeps the food fresh and familiar.

  3. Step 03

    Cook & Pack

Community kitchens get hot meals going while volunteers pack the month-long parcels of dry essentials.

  4. Step 04

    Deliver

Our teams take it the last mile — to camps, doorsteps and gathering points — and hand it over with care.

Common Questions

Questions we hear a lot.

What's the difference between a hot meal and a food parcel?
Hot meals are cooked and served by community kitchens for families who have no way to cook for themselves — usually in active emergencies and camps. A food parcel is a box of dry staples like flour, rice, lentils and oil that lets a family cook on their own for several weeks. We use whichever fits the situation on the ground.
Do you provide food during Ramadan?
We do, and it's one of our busiest times. Our teams scale up to serve iftar and hand out special Ramadan packs with dates and festive essentials so families can keep the month with dignity. At checkout you can choose to give specifically toward Ramadan distributions.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes. CBB Canada is a registered Canadian charity and issues official tax receipts for eligible gifts. Your receipt comes by email, ready to use on your Canadian tax return.
How quickly does food reach families?
In a sharp emergency, stock we hold nearby and local kitchens mean meals can reach families within days. Food parcels usually take a couple of weeks from funding to delivery, depending on access and security in the area.
