Orphaned children cared for through CBB Canada's sponsorship program
Why Orphan Care

An orphaned child needs a steady hand to hold.

Every number in a report is a child who lost the people who were supposed to protect them. And often the next thing to go is their childhood. They get pulled out of school to work. They go to bed hungry. Nobody's in their corner. It doesn't have to play out that way.

We think children belong in families, not institutions. Whenever we can, we keep a child with a surviving parent, a grandparent or a relative, and we put enough support around that home for it to hold. The family stays together. The child gets to stay a child.

Your monthly gift covers what a decent childhood actually takes: good food, school fees and supplies, regular check-ups at the doctor, and the kind of steady care that lets a kid feel safe enough to dream again.

The one who cares for an orphan and myself will be together like this in the next world.

How it works

Care that follows the child, not the calendar.

Sponsorship is a relationship, not a one-off. Our four steps are built to hold for years, not a few months.

  1. Step 01

    Identify

Local teams and community elders find the children who need help most, and sit down to understand what each family is really up against.

  2. Step 02

    Match

We pair each child with a sponsor and keep them with family wherever we can, so they stay rooted in the people and home they know.

  3. Step 03

    Provide

Your monthly support pays for food, school fees, healthcare and counselling. That's the foundation a healthy childhood is built on.

  4. Step 04

    Walk Alongside

Field staff check in often, keep an eye on how each child is doing at home and in school, and send you updates as the years go by.

Common Questions

Questions we hear a lot.

Why keep children with relatives instead of in an orphanage?
Decades of evidence point the same way: children do better in families than in institutions. Staying with a surviving parent or relative protects a child's sense of belonging, their culture and who they are, and our support keeps that home able to cope.
Will I hear about the child I sponsor?
Yes. You'll get a profile of your child and updates through the year on their schooling, their health and how they're doing, with photos when it's safe and appropriate to share them.
What does my monthly gift actually cover?
Full sponsorship covers a child's food, school fees and supplies, routine and emergency healthcare, and emotional or counselling support, all coordinated by local field staff who know the child by name.
Will I get a Canadian tax receipt?
Yes. CBB Canada is a registered Canadian charity, and we issue official tax receipts for every eligible donation, monthly sponsorship included.
